Milwaukee Cocktail Week 2014 – Sept 21st – 27th
Mark your calendars! We’re happy to announce that we’ve picked the official dates for Milwaukee Cocktail Week (MKECW), 2014! In this, our 2nd year, we’ll once again be organizing a great series of cocktail-focused events during the last full week of September, Sunday the 21st – Saturday the 27th.
Like last year, we’ll “kick it off” with our Kickoff Tailgate on Sunday, September 21st. We’ll once again pair excellent Milwaukee chefs with local bartenders and create unique and fun food and drink pairings that guests can sample throughout the event. Tickets will go on sale soon and we’ll have more details at that time.
Also like last year, the heart and soul of MKECW will be our weekday events put together by our venue partners and sponsoring spirit brands. We’re very excited to be helping to organize a large number of cocktail dinners at some of Milwaukee’s top restaurants and pre-and-post-dinner events at some of our cities best cocktail joints. We invite (and indeed encourage) you to attend as many of these fun and often educational events as you desire. There will be something exciting happening every single day of Cocktail Week! As events solidify, we’ll add them to our official schedule.
Our week of celebration will close on Saturday, September 27th with our Cocktail College and Distilled Spirits Festival. Here, you’ll be able to sample the distilled spirits that helped make MKECW possible. Each brand will have a table and be pouring small samples of their brands. You’ll have the chance to speak with many of the distillers or distillery representatives, ask them questions and, with luck, find a few new favorites. In addition to all the sampling, guests will be invited to attend cocktail seminars throughout the event on a variety of topics. By the end of the event, we’re confident you’ll have a few new tricks up your sleeves and a better working knowledge as to how to improve your cocktails at home or at your next cocktail party.
Join us for the 2nd annual MKE Cocktil Week Kickoff Tailgate! This is an exclusive, limited-ticket event in the “Big F’n Tent” at the Horny Goat Hideaway on 1st & Becher. Attendees will enjoy unlimited (within reason) samples of food and cocktail pairing between some of Milwaukee’s favorite chefs and bartenders, all while football game airs in the background on the tents giant TV!
Last year, seven Milwaukee chefs were tasked with preparing their own creative take on “classic tailgate fare.” Then, seven of Brew City’s finest bartenders were paired with a sponsoring spirit brand and asked to concoct a creative recipe to pair with one of the chefs’ dishes. Braise Restaurant & Culinary School has a daily changing menu based on seasonal items available from local farmers. In addition to our nightly menu, every month Braise hosts a special family-style dinner on a Tuesday night. Open to a maximum of 40 guests and usually feature a 3-course menu, these dinners generally also have a special guest joining us. It might be a farmer, a chef, someone famous … you never know!
Shake it! Stir It! Drink It! In this unique and exclusive hands-on mixology class with the world’s best tasting vodka, Grey Goose, participants will learn to craft their own delicious cocktails. Inspired by the history of Walkers Point and the building of which c.1880 calls home (which during the prohibition distilled bootleg gin in the basement). The cornucopia of flavors of gin will be the forward movement of the evening’s dinner, with cocktails created by General Manager & Beverage Director Joshua Wolter. Gins being used include, but are not limited to, Rehorst, Hendricks, St. George, Old Tom’s, and Dry Fly. Also an array of mixers, bitters, and other liquors will be present.

Everything about Journeyman Distillery is handcrafted. They offer artisan spirits with a focus on whiskey. As part of Milwaukee Cocktail Week, we invite you to join us for a very special dinner with Journeyman owner and distiller Bill Welter on Thursday, September 25 at 6:30 p.m.
Journeyman Distillery, located in Three Oaks, Michigan, focuses on whiskey along with a variety of quality organic spirits such as vodka, gin, and rum. They distill, bottle, label, and package each spirit at the Distillery. Their products come from the simplest, purest ingredients on earth. The Distillery is certified organic by the Midwest Organic Services Association. They use organic grain produced without the use of synthetic fertilizers, artificial pesticides, herbicides, antibiotics, growth hormones, feed additives, or genetically modified organisms (GMOs).

Notes on the menu: For Dinner this year, rather than handing the chef the Cocktails, we asked for the chef to hand the menu to our “Chefs de Cocktail.” Chef Guy Davies wrote a menu using the inspiration of the spirit. He then turned the menu back to the bar to deliver cocktails to accent and drive the flavors of his thoughtfully paired menu. Chartreuse is a French liqueur made by the Carthusian Monks since 1737 according to the instructions set out in the secret manuscript given to them by François Annibal d’Estrées in 1605. It is composed of distilled alcohol aged with 130 herbs, plants and flowers. The liqueur is named after the Monks’ Grande Chartreuse monastery, located in the Chartreuse Mountains in the general region of Grenoble in France. The liqueur is produced in their distillery in the nearby town of Voiron.
At this unique Milwaukee Cocktail Week event, guests will experience the classic flavors of Chartreuse as expressed in a variety of cocktails, both classic recipes and Bryant’s originals. Come explore the myth and legend of the only liquor so storied, they named a color after it.
