Milwaukee Cocktail Week 2014 – Sept 21st – 27th
Mark your calendars! We’re happy to announce that we’ve picked the official dates for Milwaukee Cocktail Week (MKECW), 2014! In this, our 2nd year, we’ll once again be organizing a great series of cocktail-focused events during the last full week of September, Sunday the 21st – Saturday the 27th.
Like last year, we’ll “kick it off” with our Kickoff Tailgate on Sunday, September 21st. We’ll once again pair excellent Milwaukee chefs with local bartenders and create unique and fun food and drink pairings that guests can sample throughout the event. Tickets will go on sale soon and we’ll have more details at that time.
Also like last year, the heart and soul of MKECW will be our weekday events put together by our venue partners and sponsoring spirit brands. We’re very excited to be helping to organize a large number of cocktail dinners at some of Milwaukee’s top restaurants and pre-and-post-dinner events at some of our cities best cocktail joints. We invite (and indeed encourage) you to attend as many of these fun and often educational events as you desire. There will be something exciting happening every single day of Cocktail Week! As events solidify, we’ll add them to our official schedule.
Our week of celebration will close on Saturday, September 27th with our Cocktail College and Distilled Spirits Festival. Here, you’ll be able to sample the distilled spirits that helped make MKECW possible. Each brand will have a table and be pouring small samples of their brands. You’ll have the chance to speak with many of the distillers or distillery representatives, ask them questions and, with luck, find a few new favorites. In addition to all the sampling, guests will be invited to attend cocktail seminars throughout the event on a variety of topics. By the end of the event, we’re confident you’ll have a few new tricks up your sleeves and a better working knowledge as to how to improve your cocktails at home or at your next cocktail party.
**UPDATE** We’re proud to announce that Wisconsin Foodie host Kyle Cherek will be our EmCee at the Kickoff Tailgate! We’re also getting in new details for the food and cocktail pairings every day. For now, here are the restaurants, bars ad spirit brands involved. For now, these are NOW specific pairings! We’re super excited to have all these great chefs and bartenders involved!
Join us for the 2nd annual MKE Cocktail Week Kickoff Tailgate! This is an exclusive, limited-ticket event in the “Big F’n Tent” at the Horny Goat Hideaway on 1st & Becher. Attendees will enjoy unlimited (within reason) samples of food and cocktail pairing between some of Milwaukee’s favorite chefs and bartenders, all while football game airs in the background on the tents giant TV!
Last year, seven Milwaukee chefs were tasked with preparing their own creative take on “classic tailgate fare.” Then, seven of Brew City’s finest bartenders were paired with a sponsoring spirit brand and asked to concoct a creative recipe to pair with one of the chefs’ dishes. This year, the event will be bigger and better! Purchase your tickets now and reserve your spot at Milwaukee’s most unique and exclusive tailgate party!
All bartenders, from the most veteran in craft cocktails to the weekend warriors and everything in between, are invited to join us at Tin Widow from 1-3 pm on Monday, Sept 22nd for a craft whiskey education and tasting featuring Mississippi River Distilling Co. out of Iowa. He will then proceed with a brief overview of craft whiskey, the challenges they face, the advantages they have and their own unique place in craft cocktails.
Attendees will learn all about how craft distilleries like Mississippi River Distilling Co produce their whiskey, from the grain they use, through the fermentation process of the mash, finally ending with distillation and barrel ageing. Ryan will also be on hand to answer any questions you might have regarding craft distilling, whiskey in general and his products specifically. Sample cocktails using his whiskies will be provided, as well as light lunch.

More competitors will no doubt be stepping forward soon.
Guests will be entertained as these bartenders trash talk and shake up their best renditions of the classic gin fizz. Samples will be poured and freely given, with full cocktails available for purchase. Goodkind is a restaurant and corner tavern tucked away in Milwaukee’s Bay View neighborhood, near the shores of Lake Michigan. Taking a modern approach to Old-World dining, we specialize in rotisserie meats, local produce, and house-made cocktails.
We opened June 2014 in an old, beloved residential building that had previously housed businesses as varied as a pizza parlor, blacksmith shop and of course, a typical Milwaukee neighborhood tap. Goodkind is the new epoch in a long, rich history. It’s a responsibility we take very seriously. We’ve reinvented our inherited space to feel comfortable, timeless, and energizing.
Our casual approach focuses on the experience above all else. We pride ourselves on taking off the white linens and making dinner fun and approachable without sacrificing quality or elegance.
At Goodkind, we don’t just focus on a delicate pairing of food and drink, we strive to create a truly symbiotic relationship between our kitchen and bar. Serving a full kitchen menu until 1 a.m. solidifies our intention of being a bar and a restaurant. Through our close friendships with artisanal producers and providers, we have access to rare releases and unique seasonal offerings. Deliveries arrive daily, and the ingredients are as likely to appear on your plate as they are in your glass. Our aim is to continually surprise you. And ourselves.
All to the Good &
the best of its Kind!
